Marion Winter

Born in Dresden / Germany and since 1988 living on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland – both countries have influence on my art.

I got in contact with art already in my childhood by visiting galleries full of exciting traditional art. However, it was much later in my life and with some “detours“ that I turned to art in a professional way.

When I first started to paint miniatures it was to decorate the walls of dolls houses that I built for collectors. When I used cuttings of “Old Masters” works from magazines they began to fade within the shortest of time. This unfortunate situation has triggered my interest in learning to paint miniatures.

After a successful start by receiving a “Highly Commended” in my first exhibition, I felt encouraged to carry on painting and / or desired to contend I inherited some talent from my grandfather Max, to architect and artist, who had the long before I what born.

Meanwhile I had joined the Australian Society of Miniature Art, Qld. Inc. “(ASMA QLD). This organization arranges two exhibitions per year, one for members only and an” International Exhibition “at the Gold Coast City Arts Center. In 2000 I entered my first exhibition with the World Federation of Miniature Art at Hobart , Tasmania, and at this occasion I received invitations to exhibit in the UK and US.

I am now a member of the most important Miniature Art Societies in England and the US: “The Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers” in London and “The Hilliard Society” in Wells / Somerset as well as “The Miniature Art Society of Florida,” “The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC” and “The Cider Painters of America in Pennsylvania.” My participation in their yearly exhibitions is a great incentive to me. I also enjoy to enter miniature art exhibitions, staged by regional or private galleries.

Up to now I enjoy mostly to paint landscapes in a traditional, realistic way with a romantic touch, thus flowers and still lifes; however it is a great challenge to enter the world of Surrealism, which continues to be a great pleasure.

In my aim to support Miniature Art I recently founded “ICMA – International Community of Miniature Art” – a website based community for miniature art enthusiasts – with a great variety of interesting articles on various topics of this beautiful and rare kind of art.
